Will Taking a LinkedIn Break Hurt Your Professional Brand & Visibility?
4 April, 2025
So for me the start of 2025 has been really busy. March especially as I’ve been to 4 events in 4 different cities! (London, Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester if you’re interested!)
It has been a month of connection and growth. Meeting so many of you in person has been incredibly energising and an extrovert brought me lots of joy.
But I feel a ‘people hangover’ coming on..
Plus I’ve got notes coming out of my ears from all these events and it will take time to process the golden nuggets shared. It has been brilliant to spend some time on my own professional development and learn from others experiences - namely the LinkedIn world experts at UpLift Live.
I’ve shared my own expertise and it was greatly received at the Business Booster hosted by the incredible Carmel Dickinson Dickinson. She really curated a brilliant experience with some fabulous people and my little black book is now brimming with lots of lovely new connections. And work - so thank you!
The Reality Check
But here's something we as female leaders don't discuss enough: behind every polished post and successful event lies a different operational reality. While our feeds showcase the highlights, the mental load required to maintain it all remains invisible:
👉 The late nights finalising presentations and juggling all the kids hobbies
👉 The early morning travel and military precision of getting the kids ready in my absence (yeah I’m that mum that forgot pyjamas to pack for swimming 🙄)
👉 The absolute frustration and audacity of discovering my content being used without permission (yes, dealing with copyright infringement yet again)
👉 The constant pressure to be a good mum, wife, founder and then exercise, eat 5 a day and don't forget your supplements!
These challenges take their toll, both professionally and personally.
And I believe there's value in acknowledging this side of entrepreneurship too - not as a complaint, but as a reminder that we're all navigating complex realities behind our professional presence.
Strategic Renewal: Leading by Example
As leaders, we often encourage our teams to prioritise wellbeing while struggling to give ourselves the same permission. After looking at my priorities, I've made a decision that aligns with what I advocate for others: REST!
I'll be intentionally investing in rest and FUN with some time off over the Easter break with my family.
This isn't stepping back, it's taking a break and stepping forward into sustainable leadership. Limited emails and social media. Just focused time with loved ones to refill my creativity and sharpen my strategic thinking.
How will it affect your visibility?
For those wondering about stepping back too and having a break from LinkedIn
💡 Know that a couple of weeks break will not penalise you in terms of visibility so do not feel guilty about removing the app or disabling notifications
💡 Yes, taking more than 3 weeks away can impact visibility metrics and algorithm favour
💡 The renewal benefits of taking a rest far outweigh the temporary statistical dips
Algorithmic Effects
🟪 2-3 weeks: Most users can take a 2-3 week break with minimal impact on visibility
🟪1 month+: After about a month, you'll likely see a noticeable decrease in profile views, search appearances, and post reach
🟪 2-3 months+: Extended absences require more effort to rebuild momentum when you return
Specific Metrics Affected
🟪 SSI Score (Social Selling Index): Can decline within 1-2 weeks of inactivity
🟪 Post reach: The algorithm may reduce your content distribution after 1-2 weeks of no engagement
🟪 Connection growth rate: Typically slows after 3-4 weeks of inactivity
I'll have a minimal engagement strategy in place. A quick check-in once a week and perhaps a scheduled post. But my focus will be elsewhere.
🐰 🍫 Baking, eating Easter eggs and lots of dog walks.
This boundary-setting isn't a luxury; it's a necessity for long-term innovation, growth and you’ll spring back being better at your job. With added vigour and ambition.
A Break is a Strategic Return on Investment
An intentional reset and digital detox will help you to generate ideas for your next phase of growth.
When we all have such a heavy mental load, so many lists and things to organise it can really take its toll on our performance.
So what will you be doing this Easter to ensure you have a well earned rest and bounce back full of beans?
Wishing you all a restful Easter break if you're observing it, and as always, thank you for being part of my community here on LinkedIn.
